Explanation

On 5 July 1977, General Zia-ul-Haq deposed Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and declared Martial Law in Pakistan.

Zia appointed himself as the Chief Martial Law Administrator and remained in this role until he became the President of Pakistan on 16 September 1978.
