Iskander Mirza took charge as President on 23 March 1956. He was the first President of Pakistan. He belonged to the Republican Party. He was the last Governor-General of Pakistan. He abrogated the 1956 constitution. Iskander Mirza, who also served as Governor-General and Prime Minister of Pakistan, died in exile. He was born on November 13, 1899 in Murshidabad, India. He was died on November 13, 1969 , in London, UK , buried in Iran. He was the great-grandson of Mir Jafar , the military general who betrayed Nawab Siraj ud Daula in the Battle of Plassey in 1757. He was assassinated on Oct 16, 1951 , while addressing a gathering of 100,000 at Company Bagh , Rawalpindi (now Liaquat Bagh ).
His assassin, Said Akbar , was shot dead by police immediately .
Buried at Mazar-e-Quaid, Karachi.
